Virtual Rules for HRRB Competition
*****These rules will be updated shortly to reflect a change from using Google Meets or Teams to using Buzzin.Live. Once registration is paid a key for Buzzin.Live will be sent to the coach to access the virtual buzzers to practice with your team.*****
Game Format:
1. Each school will participate in six rounds
2. Each round will consist of ten questions
3. Alternates may be substituted between rounds
4. Teams will receive ten points for each correct answer
5. There will be no penalties for wrong answers
6. There will be five members on a team and up to five alternates
7. A school may have no more than one team
Rules During the Game/Round:
1. Students will wear headsets with a microphone (optional).
2. Students must be muted and attentive while questions are being read and should not be typing on their keyboard or flipping through the pages of a book.
3. The Moderator and students' camera must be on at all times.
4. Team members will report to the Google Meets room for each competition. They should split screen and go to Buzzin.Live. The moderator will provide the participants with a game code for Buzzin.Live. It will be typed in the chat box. when logging in to Buzzin.Live, students will type their ID# which consists of school initial and team member number for their name. They may hover their finger over the green Buzzin.Live button until the question is read. No other text in the chat area will be accepted such as emojis or special characters.
5. When the student wishes to answer a question, press the green Buzz button on Buzzin.Live. The first student to buzz in must be acknowledged by the console judge before they unmute and answer.
6. Student has ten seconds to answer the question.
7. If question is correct, the student will receive ten points for their team. Students will not see their individual points but can see the team points on the Buzzin.Live screen.
8. If the answer is incorrect, the buzzers will be reset and the question will be repeated for the other team. They will have ten seconds to answer after buzzing in, being acknowledged by the console judge, and unmuting to speak.
9. If neither team buzzes in, the moderator will answer the question and proceed to the next question.
10. If a contestant buzzes in before the completion of a question, the console judge says "stop", the moderator stops reading, console judge will acknowledge the contestant, student unmutes and must answer immediately. If an incorrect answer is given, the moderator reads the entire question and the opposing team has an opportunity to answer the question within ten seconds.
11. Any concern about an answer to a question MUST be addressed by the student before the next question is asked. The student will get the attention of the moderator and console judge by typing "C" in the chat box on Google Meets. Once acknowledged by the console judge, the student will unmute and voice their concern. Every effort will be made to reconcile any challenges.
12. Moderator will click on the cell that contains a copy of the page that contains the answer from the book to read the passage on the page where the answer is located. The Challenge Room will be contacted if further verification is needed.
13. Coaches should remain in the room with your team. Your team may need you during the round. However, you may NOT initiate a challenge. Only the team members may do that.
14. If a round ends in a tie, there WILL NOT be a tie breaker.
